There is increasing optimism that Benjamin Pavard can return from injury for Inter Milan against Barcelona on Tuesday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Frenchman could return for the second leg of the Champions League semifinal tie.

Inter Milan were without defender Benjamin Pavard for the first leg of their Champions League tie against Barcelona.

The 29-year-old suffered an ankle injury during the first half of last weekend’s Serie A clash with Roma.

Therefore, Pavard was on the sidelines as Inter played out a 3-3 draw away to Barcelona on Wednesday.

Germany international Yann Bisseck started on the right of Inter’s back three in Pavard’s place.

The big question now has been whether Benjamin Pavard would be able to return for the second leg against Barcelona.

Inter host the Blaugranas at the San Siro on Tuesday.

That is not a great deal of time in which to recover for Pavard. There are just four days to go before that match.

However, considering the massive importance of the match for Inter’s season, Pavard is doing everything he can to get back to fitness in time to be available.

And according to the Gazzetta, behind the scenes Inter are increasingly optimistic that Pavard can do it.

The club’s medical staff are monitoring the former Bayern Munich defender’s progress one day at a time.

Pavard will of course be out for this evening’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona.

However, there is every chance that the France international can return on Tuesday.
