Orlando City SC continues rolling with momentum over opponents. They rolled over Sporting Kansas City 3-1.

With their 3-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City, the Lions of Orlando City SC extended their MLS winning streak to four games. They rose to fourth place in the MLS Eastern Conference.

Until now, the team has struggled to focus for all 90 minutes and maintain consistency of effort in both first and second halves of matches. Orlando City is achieving these qualities now in their performance. They’ve picked a great time in the MLS season to peak.

Following the match with Sporting Kansas City, they had only seven regular-season games left. The next match was with Nashville SC. That team stands in third place in the Eastern Conference. For Orlando City to maintain its momentum, it must overtake that third spot in the conference.

But the Lions keep their focus on each task at hand. They are playing capable squads such as Sporting Kansas City. Their players opened up spaces for attack and created chances in the first half. But Orlando focused on the most difficult parts of the game.

The result is that even with an effective Kansas City attack, Orlando found an early chance. Newly acquired winger Tyrese Spicer got the first score in the second minute during his first start for the Lions.

Spicer’s goal came at one minute, 10 seconds into the match and set a new club record for fastest score during a player’s team debut. The previous record was 17 minutes, 54 seconds.

In the second half and after a weather delay, Head Coach Oscar Pareja said the players increased their focus on adjusting lines and tactical movements in the middle. Kansas City had equalized the match with a 25th-minute score by striker Dejan Joveljic, assisted by Mason Toye.

The Orlando defense solidified. They created enough chances for two more scores. One was by forward Ramiro Enrique, assisted by Martin Ojeda and Ivan Angulo. Then another goal came from winger Nicolas Rodriguez.

This incredible momentum should be enjoyed by supporters. But the players should maintain the focus that feeds this momentum. They will achieve that by continuing to prepare and execute just as they have in the previous four matches.
