Both sides made a lot of noise on the pitch when the Orlando Pride took on Bay FC. Yet it looked to be a 0-0 draw until the 58th minute.
That was when left back Carson Pickett broke through a Bay defense after a quick free kick. It was a defense that had until that moment equaled everything the Pride had accomplished. She set up striker Barbra Banda, who finished. They didn’t know at the time, but it was to be the game-winning goal.
With the Pride’s stonewall defense still in place, goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse covered the net. She finished the match with five saves.
The effort resulted in placing Pride players among club and league leaders.
Moorhouse is now the 10th keeper in NWSL history with 25 regular-season shutouts and the first for the Pride. She’s also the seventh netminder in the league with 35 regular-season wins. Her clean sheet was the second consecutive for her and the fifth this season, which ties for the most in the league.

Pickett earned her second assist of the season, which leads the club. The goal she helped with was Banda’s eighth of the season. Banda now has four goals in her last two road matches. Her ninth career game-winning goal for the Pride is the second most in the league since the start of the 2014 season.
Just as significant, Banda has 11 goals on the road. That number is the second most in the NWSL since she entered the league last season.
Bay FC worked hard to prevent any further damage. But they also emphasized containing Barbra Banda. Recently, she romped over the Utah Royals. She continued until she posted only the third hat trick in NWSL history. But it was also the first road hat trick ever.
Head Coach Seb Hines explained the importance of taking the lead, even if it’s by one goal. Once the Pride takes the lead, they become most difficult to play against.
