Sunderland would have to break their transfer record to land Victor Munoz, with Osasuna intent on his release clause amid interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Black Cats added wide options in January with Nilson Angulo and Jocelin Ta Bi, though both have seen their starts disrupted by injuries after moves from Anderlecht and Maccabi Netanya.

Munoz, 22, has produced six goals and five assists in 34 outings this season in all competitions. His form brought a first Spain call-up and a debut goal in a 3-0 win over Serbia.

Real Madrid sold him to Osasuna last summer and retained a buy-back clause, while Barcelona have also been linked in recent months.

“We’re not listening, we’re sticking to the clause. Real Madrid have a three-year buy-back option that’s already agreed upon. What we’re doing is enjoying Víctor until the end of the season. Many people criticised us for signing such a young player with so few minutes in La Liga. Now they’re asking us why we didn’t buy him outright. We accepted the terms Real Madrid set. Víctor made the right decision coming here, and so did we.”

He was speaking to AS.
