Out of form, Garro goes five months without scoring for Corinthians

Rodrigo Garro is not going through a good phase wearing the Corinthians jersey. The midfielder has not yet managed to regain the high level he showed in 2024 and this week marked five months without scoring for the Parque São Jorge team.

Garro’s last goal for Corinthians was on September 10 of last year. On that occasion, he scored a goal and provided an assist in Timão’s 2-0 win over Athletico-PR in the Copa do Brasil.

Since then, it’s been 18 matches without finding the net. In this goalless streak, the Argentine has yet to break his drought this year and has been relegated to the bench. He was not among the starting eleven in the most important matches of this season, such as the clash against Flamengo in the Supercopa do Brasil, and the derby against Palmeiras last Sunday.

Sharp decline

Garro experienced a sharp decline in performance last year. In 2024, the midfielder scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists in 62 matches, making him one of the main highlights of the black-and-white club. Last season, he struggled with injuries and saw his numbers drop to two goals and seven assists in 38 appearances.

Despite the poor run, Dorival Júnior’s coaching staff still believes in the player and sees him as an important part of the squad. Even though he is no longer a starter, he continues to get opportunities and comes on in the second half of matches.

Dorival believes Garro needs more minutes on the pitch to rediscover his good form. The player was sidelined for a long time due to a knee problem and missed the start of the season because of surgery on his left wrist.

This year, the 28-year-old Argentine has played six matches and provided one assist. He is under contract with Corinthians until the end of 2028.
