It’s been a fabulous campaign for Frank Lampard’s men, who had to deal with the heartache of defeat to Sunderland in last season’s play-off semi-final, but have bounced back in tremendous fashion to occupy a place at the summit of the standings for much of the campaign.

Sky Blues supporters will look forward to being part of England’s elite 20 teams and establishing themselves as a top-flight outfit for years to come.

To do that, there may have to be massive squad changes, with the Black Cats a prime example of overhauling their second tier playing squad, which has led to them comfortably breezing to survival on their return to the big time.

However, there may be some players who are deserving of a chance to make their mark on the biggest of footballing stages, with the club hopeful some can step up to the challenge and be tremendous assets in the top-flight.

With this in mind, FLW’s Coventry City fan pundit has named one Sky Blues player who he believes can rise to the challenge of the Premier League and help contribute to the West Midlands outfit’s survival bid.

Ephron Mason-Clark backed to make Premier League step-up with Coventry City

Speaking to Football League World, Coventry City fan pundit Chris Deez has backed Ephron Mason-Clark to be a success story for the Sky Blues in the Premier League, believing he has multiple attributes that make him ‘capable’ of making the step-up in class.

When asked which Coventry player could rise up to the Premier League challenge, Chris told FLW: “This is a really tough one to predict and decide because it’s impossible to say what sort of season we’re going to have in our first one back in the Premier League.

“So hard to say what sort of players are going to adapt well to it, which ones might be poor, like (Frank) Onyeka, he came from a Premier League team, and he’s been incredible for us as he’s stepped down the league, but is there a reason he couldn’t get a look in at Brentford this season?

“Matty Grimes, a player who has absolutely rammed the midfield, he’s been the engine of the team, the heartbeat, the spine, but is he going to be able to make the step-up to the Premier League?

“I think I’m going to go for Ephron Mason-Clark. We knew he was good at Peterborough when we got him loan and then brought him on a permanent deal.

“He's made really steady progression and then this season, even though he’s not been our top scorer and not getting Man of the Match every game, I think he would be in real contention to be our Player of the Season.

“It’s obviously going to be (Carl) Rushworth, because without Rushworth we’d be mid-table, but EMC works his socks off, puts in a shift every game and I think he’s capable of making the step-up.

“He’s a pacey winger who’s also strong and is happy to run at players. Once he gets into the corner or down the wing, he can whip a good ball in, and he’s popped up with important goals here and there and got assists as well.

“So, I think he’s a player we’d be sure to keep hold of if he has a good first season in the Premier League.”

Ephron Mason-Clark has the potential to be the next Premier League surprise package

At 26, Ephron Mason-Clark is hitting the prime years of his career, and that’s been on display given his last couple of seasons in the Championship.

Ever since stepping up to the second tier when signing for the Sky Blues back in 2024, Mason-Clark has been a livewire on the left flank, using his pace and directness to constantly get the beating of opposition defenders.

Then, when breaking into the final third, he’s had the presence of mind to either set up his teammates with devastating crosses or possess a clinical edge when presented with shooting opportunities himself.

Mason-Clark has thrived since linking up with Frank Lampard, and after recording a career-best season for attacking contributions in the Championship, you feel he is one of the players who is deserving of seeing whether he can produce similar numbers in the top-flight.

Of course, next season, competition will be ramped up across all departments and Mason-Clark will have to be up for the fight, but he possesses the attributes needed to be a dangerous and potent force in the big time, and Coventry will need all the creativity they can get to secure their first aim of survival.
