Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion had to settle for a point apiece in a scrappy 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park, as neither side managed to find the finishing touch in a typically hard-fought M23 derby.

The match started brightly with both teams trading early chances. Jean-Philippe Mateta went close for Palace after fine work from Ismaïla Sarr, while Diego Gómez forced Dean Henderson into a sharp save before Sarr tested Bart Verbruggen at the other end.

Brighton’s best chance came before half-time when Gómez robbed Adam Wharton and slipped in Yankuba Minteh, who scuffed wide from a great position.

Palace had a big opportunity after the restart, but Daichi Kamada fired off target after Sarr’s ball caused chaos in the box.

Georginio Rutter’s second-half dive briefly stirred controversy when a penalty was overturned by VAR, before Yeremy Pino was denied late on by Verbruggen.

The draw extends Palace’s unbeaten home run to 12 league games as they stay 10th, while Brighton remain a point behind their rivals in 11th.
