Inter believe they can win the race for Marco Palestra over Premier League interest this summer.
Sky Sport Italia reports that an opening €40m plus add-ons bid was rejected, but Inter remain confident a deal at €45m can be agreed.
Palestra excelled on loan at Cagliari this season, earning his first senior Italy caps and attracting attention across Europe.
Atalanta are prepared to sell and are hoping for at least €50m, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Liverpool among the clubs linked.
Inter have tracked the Italian for a long time and believe he could turn down other options to give them the advantage.
He would prefer to remain in Serie A at this stage, seeing Inter as the right step for regular minutes. Federico Dimarco’s presence is considered helpful, with the pair likely to form a core of Italy’s wing-back options going forward.
Palestra is viewed as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who underwent a medical with Real Madrid for the €20m release clause today.
