Joao Palhinha admitted Tottenham Hotspur’ 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers felt like a loss after his late strike salvaged a point in North London.
Thomas Frank’s side went into the match hoping to return to winning ways in the league after drawing 2-2 in their previous Premier League outing.
The visitors took the lead in the 54th minute when Santiago Bueno struck to put Wolves ahead, leaving the home fans frustrated.
It appeared Vitor Pereira’s side would leave with all three points until Palhinha levelled the game with a late goal to rescue Spurs.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Palhinha was clear about his disappointment and stressed that these are matches Tottenham should be winning.
“I am not happy at all to be honest. Those are the games we need to win, especially when we play at home,” he said.
“We did a great first half but we could have created more chances. When you are losing 1-0 to these kind of teams, we need to push on the pitch.”
The Portuguese midfielder admitted it was always going to be a difficult fixture but still described the result as a missed opportunity.
“It is not going to be easy, we knew it. Of course, I am really sad. This result is mandatory for us in these games. It is a draw that feels like a loss,” Palhinha added.
Despite the frustration, Tottenham’s return of 11 points from their first six league matches keeps them in touch with the top places.
They have managed three wins, two draws, and just one defeat in the league so far.
Spurs will now switch focus to the UEFA Champions League, where they face Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt in their next group stage fixture.
Frank’s team began their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Villarreal.
