FC Bayern aims to generate some additional revenue this summer through player sales. The club is focusing particularly on players on loan. In the case of Joao Palhinha, the club in Munich has set certain conditions for a sale.
Last season, the Portuguese player was on loan to Tottenham, where he played a key role and was instrumental in helping the team avoid relegation. However, the Spurs ultimately decided to focus on other players.
With Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali joining the Spurs, the Palhinha saga came to an end. Sporting was also interested, but the Portuguese club lacks the financial resources to meet Bayern’s demands.
Most recently, Benfica also entered the fray. Portuguese media reported that the historic club is prepared to pay up to 25 million euros to the record champions—exactly the amount Bayern had previously demanded from Tottenham and Sporting.

However, the transfer structure wasn’t entirely clear even at the time of those reports. There was talk, for example, of a loan with a high fee and an obligation to buy. According toSky, negotiations haven’t even reached that stage yet.
There is undoubtedly interest on Benfica’s part. But so far, there have been nothing more than exploratory talks. No negotiations have even taken place with Bayern yet. And an agreement with the player has not yet been fully reached either.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, is said to have made it clear that a straight loan is out of the question. The Palhinha situation is now set to be resolved once and for all. An immediate sale is the record champion’s clear goal; a loan with an obligation to buy could still be a compromise, as it would immediately save the club his high salary and guarantee his departure in 2027.
In addition to Benfica, Italian clubs such as Milan are reportedly still interested.
