Palmeiras begin another decisive Paulista campaign on Saturday 21, facing Capivariano in the quarter-finals at Arena Barueri, with kick-off at 20:30 Brasília time. The tie also carries significance for coach Abel Ferreira, who could move closer to the competition’s historical elite.
Nosso Palestra notes that since arriving in 2020, Abel Ferreira has never been eliminated in the quarter-finals and has reached every final he has contested. He has played five finals and won three, lifting the state title in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
With another trophy, he would match Armando Del Debbio on four and enter Palmeiras’ top four title-winning coaches in the Paulistão. The club’s ranking is led by Vanderlei Luxemburgo with nine titles, followed by Lula with eight and Osvaldo Brandão with seven.
One of the Portuguese coach’s trump cards is efficiency in knockout games. Under him, Palmeiras have become a competitive, mentally strong outfit, qualities that matter most in the Paulistão’s decisive stages.
Beyond the numbers, Abel is already viewed as a defining figure of the club’s recent era, and another trophy could cement that status further. First comes Capivariano, and the recent record offers supporters ample reason to believe in another strong campaign.
