Palmeiras are using the World Cup pause to secure key players, with a new deal for captain Gustavo Gómez close. According to Nosso Palestra, talks in recent weeks have lined up an extension.
Both sides are aligning final details and plan to complete the agreement once the tournament ends.
The expectation is that the Paraguayan captain will sign a contract running to the end of 2029.
At 33, Gómez has indicated to team-mates and people close to him that he wants to play for Palmeiras until late in his career.
He has not ruled out a return to Paraguay to retire, but for now does not envisage leaving soon and aims to keep adding to his story at the club.
