What was expected to be a hopeful day for Barcelona has turned into a sour one following La Liga and RFEF’s decision to block the transfer of Vitor Roque.

The Brazilian looked set for a move to Palmeiras, with even Real Betis being on board with a transfer that would have Barcelona pocket €25 million while retaining 20% of the player’s transfer rights.

However, La Liga and the RFEF poured water over Barcelona’s hopes of securing Roque’s exit, as they have blocked the move citing legal issues.

Palmeiras suspend negotiations

To make things worse for Barcelona, any last-minute hopes of Roque’s transfer this month have vanished into thin air, as Palmeiras have now suspended all negotiations.

This is according to SPORT, which suggests that the Brazilian outfit have broken off all contact with Barcelona and Real Betis.

For now, Palmeiras have given up all hopes of signing Vitor Roque this month after learning that his potential return to Brazil would have broken several laws in La Liga.

Palmeiras were informed earlier today that they cannot sign Roque, who is on loan at Real Betis and for him to return to Brazil, he would have to be re-registered into the Barcelona squad.

Moreover, Real Betis are not in a position to loan out Roque as the club themselves own the player only on a temporary deal.

As for Barcelona, Roque’s failed move doesn’t bode well for the club, who have lost out on a potential revenue of €25 million.

To make things worse, there is no guarantee the club will be able to generate such a sum for the forward in the summer, knowing Roque’s valuation may only decrease during the remainder of the campaign.
