Palmeiras confirm signing of Botafogo centre-back ahead of Flamengo clash

Palmeiras have confirmed the signing of Botafogo centre-back Alexander Barboza on Friday 22, though he will not be eligible to face Flamengo.

With the transfer window still closed, Palmeiras cannot register Barboza until 20 July, after the pause for the World Cup.

His contract runs to December 2028, with the possibility of a further season. He left Botafogo on Sunday 17, his final outing coming against Corinthians.

Flamengo v Palmeiras kicks off at 21:00 Brasília time on Saturday 23 at the Maracanã. The fixture is part of the 17th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, and a capacity crowd is expected.

The match will be broadcast on SporTV on pay TV and on Premiere via pay-per-view.
