Palmeiras have challenged referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima’s match report after their 2-1 win over Fluminense, saying in a statement that it misrepresented events. Citing club analysis footage, the statement says Abel Ferreira argued only with fourth official Luiz Tisne, that his applause was for defender Murilo, that he was not restrained when leaving the pitch, and that the referee did not witness the exchange and relied on Tisne via the communication system. It also says the document omitted that Palmeiras took kick-off at the start of both halves, and that the club will take appropriate measures, while calling for accuracy in official reports.
The match was played at Arena Crefisa Barueri in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Abel was sent off after protesting a late throw-in awarded to Fluminense.
The referee’s report described an outburst after the final whistle, detailing harsh words towards assistant Fernanda Nandrea Gomes Antunes and Tisne, and noting sarcastic applause directed at the officiating team.
The report also recorded that staff had to restrain the coach as he left the field, a characterisation the club’s statement disputes, alongside its contention that video shows no approach to the assistant and that the clapping was aimed at Murilo.
