Palmeiras have identified Danilo as their only transfer target this window, with negotiations under way but still short of Botafogo’s valuation.

According to Globo.com, Palmeiras have signalled a proposal for the midfielder, who played at the World Cup for Brazil. Before the tournament they were willing to pay R$ 120 million plus defender Naves, while Botafogo wanted more than R$ 200 million.

Palmeiras are not expected to reach the figure sought by Botafogo, though talks continue as they explore ways to make a deal possible. The international market is the main competition, even if his World Cup shop window was not as Botafogo had hoped.

Inside the club, this is considered the strongest squad of the Abel Ferreira era. A weakness has already been addressed with the signing of Barboza from Botafogo, which could allow a back three when required.

Strengthening midfield with Danilo is seen as a way to give Abel further tactical variety. If secured, he could compete as an eight, operating box to box, a role he performed in his first spell under Abel.

The transfer window opens on 20 July, with registration running until 11 September. Discussions are expected to develop before then, either towards an agreement or otherwise.
