Palmeiras meet Remo after 23 years as Mangueirão hosts again | OneFootball

Palmeiras and Remo are set to meet again after 23 years, returning to Mangueirão for Sunday’s tie at 16:00, Brasília time.

According to Nosso Palestra, their last encounter came on 26 July 2003 in Série B, when Remo won 2-1 at the same venue.

Palmeiras went ahead on 28 minutes through Pedrinho. Valdomiro levelled after five minutes, and Gian completed the turnaround early in the second half. That season Palmeiras won Série B and returned to the top flight.

Across eight official meetings, Palmeiras have four wins, with two draws and two defeats, and a 12-8 goals edge. Their first clash was in 1972 in the Brasileirão, a 2-0 away victory for Palmeiras.

In 1993, the sides drew 0-0 in one top-flight match and Palmeiras won the other 2-1, with Cesar Sampaio and Edmundo scoring. Now, more than two decades on, they add another chapter, with Palmeiras leading the league on 33 points and Remo 19th on 11.
