Palmeiras forward Paulinho did not feature against Fortaleza on Sunday, and tests on Monday confirmed an adductor injury in his right thigh.

According to Nosso Palestra, inside the club the problem is regarded as a normal consequence of his long absence, after about 10 months out following surgery on his right tibia.

He had been named in the squad but felt pain in training the previous day and again in the warm-up, so he was held back pending further assessment.

In recent weeks the club’s health and performance department managed his minutes to reduce the risk of muscular issues from increased training and match load.

The initial expectation at Palmeiras is that he could return to Abel Ferreira’s options in two to three weeks. He will be evaluated daily.

Next up, Fortaleza v Palmeiras, Copa do Brasil, 05/08, 21:30 Brasília time.
