PAOK ‘to seek’ Gustavo Varela loan, Benfica prefer sale

Gustavo Varela could leave Benfica this summer, with PAOK monitoring the forward after his year at Gil Vicente.

According to Glorioso 1904, the Thessaloniki club want a loan with an obligation to buy. Benfica prefer a permanent sale, though they will assess different proposals. Varela is contracted until 2028.

Until his future is resolved, the 21-year-old has been told to report to Seixal on 6 July. He is in the group scheduled to start pre-season later.

Benfica do not yet consider it the right moment to integrate him into Marco Silva’s first team.

For Gil Vicente this season he made 33 appearances, 32 in Liga Portugal Betclic and one in the Taça de Portugal. Across 1,617 minutes he scored seven goals and supplied three assists.
