Leeds United have tied down captain Ethan Ampadu to a new contract running to the summer of 2030. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, chairman Paraag Marathe said the 25-year-old has signed and all paperwork is complete.
Talks began at the start of the year with his previous deal expiring in 2027. Leeds held an option for a further year, and his Premier League displays and off-field leadership made long-term security a priority.
Marathe described Ampadu as instrumental throughout the season and a leader on and off the pitch. He called the extension an important first step for the upcoming window.
Ampadu joined in the summer of 2023 as one of the first pieces in a promotion push. He captained Daniel Farke's side to the Championship title, was key to retaining top-flight status last season and has already made 126 appearances, despite suffering two serious knee injuries in his second campaign.
Farke has repeatedly labelled the 62-cap Welsh international the club's most important player. Ampadu collected both the Players' Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards at Elland Road's end-of-season ceremony.
