Lionel Scaloni faces a fresh worry after confirmation that Leandro Paredes has suffered a muscle injury.

According to SuperDepor.com, the Boca captain has a hamstring strain that would rule him out of friendlies against Honduras and Iceland before the 2026 World Cup, which starts on 11 June in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Paredes completed 90 minutes as Boca lost at home to Universidad Católica de Chile, a defeat that sent them out in the Copa Libertadores group stage.

The setback adds to Scaloni’s concerns, with several Argentina players carrying knocks, among them defenders Lisandro Martínez and Cristian Romero, attacker Nicolás González and Lionel Messi.

Paredes is integral to Argentina, usually starting, and if not, among the first options from the bench.

He is in the 26-man squad, though it cannot be ruled out that he may be replaced by a fitter player.
