Paris FC have parted company with Stéphane Gilli after the 1-1 draw at Toulouse on Saturday, with players told of his exit shortly after full time.
According to Le Parisien, Antoine Kombouaré is in line to succeed him and is expected at Orly on Monday to take charge, with the initial aim of securing safety. He recently underwent knee surgery and had not planned to return this season, yet the club’s approach seems to have altered his stance.
Gilli had labelled the point a good one, coming a week after the 0-5 home defeat by Lens, but it did not ease boardroom doubts over his ability to deliver survival in Paris FC’s first top-flight campaign for 46 years.
The 51-year-old took over in 2023 and guided the club to promotion last season. Senior figures, including president Pierre Ferracci, were in attendance in Toulouse.
Paris FC sit 15th on 23 points, level with Nice and six clear of Auxerre in the relegation play-off place, pending Sunday’s matches at Auxerre against Rennes and Nantes against Le Havre.
Recent performances have been underwhelming, particularly in attack. In Toulouse, Paris FC were nervous early on and struggled to keep the ball or create chances.
