Pau Cubarsí named in OPTA’s 2026 World Cup group stage XI

Pau Cubarsí, 19, has been named in OPTA’s 2026 World Cup group stage XI after standout displays for Spain.

According to Superdeporte, the Barcelona centre-back is included alongside Messi, Vinicius, Mbappé, Haaland, Vozinha, Diney, Senaya, Nakamura, Vite and Mckennie.

Under Luis de la Fuente he has become a mainstay, showing calm beyond his years. His passing out from the back, defensive strength and reading of play have stood out.

His display against Uruguay underlined that progress. Despite a heavy late challenge, Cubarsí finished another high-level outing.

He has established himself as one of the revelations of the tournament and looks to be one of the leaders of Spain’s new generation.
