This summer transfer window has not been a particularly happening one for FC Barcelona so far. However, they remain strongly linked to Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, with reports even suggesting that the player spoke to Lionel Messi about the possibility of seeking a transfer to the Catalan club.
Now, ahead of a crucial FIFA World Cup game between Spain and Uruguay in Group H, Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi was asked about the possibility of Alvarez joining the club. As quoted by SPORT, the player was first asked about the difficulty of marking Alvarez as a defender, and he responded honestly:
“He’s a player I’ve faced many times already. I know how he plays. He’s a difference maker and, yes, he’s difficult to mark. I’d have to stay very alert.”
Right after that, he was asked about the possibility of Alvarez even potentially joining Barça and whether or not Cubarsi thinks he would be a good addition:
“Right now, I’m focused on the players we already have, like Ferran and Gordon, who is a new arrival. Whoever comes will be welcomed, and if nobody comes, I’m fully behind my teammates. We have a great squad.”
So while the player has not completely dismissed the possibility of Alvarez joining this summer, his priorities remain set on his current teammates at both club and international level. As for Barcelona, reports continue to emerge suggesting that they are indeed working on the operation to bring the Argentinian forward over to the club this summer despite Atletico Madrid’s insistence.
holding his own rather well so far in the tournament.
