Liverpool sacked Arne Slot yesterday after a disastrous season which saw their title defence collapse entirely. The Reds finished the season in fifth place and on just 60 points.
Despite the struggles, the decision still came as a surprise to many. Liverpool remained firm on their stance of backing Slot until yesterday morning, when the Dutchman was removed from his position.
But now attention turns to sorting a replacement. AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola is the frontrunner to replace Slot in the Anfield dugout.
According to Paul Joyce for The Times, Liverpool are set to begin formal talks with the Spaniard this week.
“Liverpool will begin formal talks with Andoni Iraola this week and want to have Arne Slot’s successor in position by the start of the World Cup,” Joyce said.
“Iraola is the frontrunner to replace Slot, who was sacked on Saturday after two years in charge.”

It’s clear to see why Liverpool rate Iraola so highly. The Spaniard has guided AFC Bournemouth to European football for the first time in the club’s history after a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.
He also adopts a high-pressing style of play, which will surely get Liverpool fans back on the edge of their seats.
It’s important to remember that sporting director Richard Hughes appointed and worked with Iraola during his time on the South Coast, and the pair are now set to reunite.
