Paul Pogba has been ruled out of Monaco’s Ligue 1 trip to Marseille on Sunday, 20:45, due to discomfort in his left calf.
According to L'Équipe, Monaco view the issue as very minor, sustained during Saturday’s final session at La Turbie, and they have chosen not to take any risks with the World Cup winner for the 16th round.
The calf problem is separate from a knee tendon issue that kept him out of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Galatasaray, a 1-0 win, when he stayed on the bench without warming up. The knee complaint was described as slight tension that flared during the warm-up.
The coach had planned to wait for Saturday’s session before deciding on his availability, and he has now left Pogba out. The midfielder returned at the end of November and has played around 30 minutes in Ligue 1 across three games, at Rennes 1-4, against PSG 1-0 and at Brest 0-1.
Sébastien Pocognoli can also call on returning defenders Christian Mawissa and Eric Dier.
