Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed that if Leeds don't get promoted this season Daniel Farke should be sacked

After a disappointing campaign last term which ended in play-off final heartbreak against Southampton, Leeds United are shaping up well to mount another promotion challenge this season.

Only goal difference is keeping Leeds out of the top two after 12 rounds, as they missed the chance to move into the automatic promotion places over the weekend with a 0-0 draw away to Bristol City.

This is now the Yorkshire giants' second season in the Championship, and having appointed Daniel Farke last season, who was deemed as a sure-fire bet to get them back into the top-flight, the German's position in the post will come under intense scrutiny if Leeds come up short again.

With two promotions to his name already, and one of the most talented squads in the division, he'll hope he has the experience behind him to see Leeds over the line this time around, but he must be fearful for what his Leeds future holds.

That's a sentiment shared by Leeds Unitedcenturion Paul Robinson, who told Football Insider that he is fearful for Farke's job if he doesn't get Leeds up this time around.

Robinson believes Leeds belong in the Premier League

Robinson came through the youth ranks at Elland Road and knows first hand the weight of expectation there is that the club is competing at the top level.

Failure to gain promotion this season would mean a third successive season in the second tier, and according to Robinson, that simply isn't good enough.

“The requirement is to be in the Premier League" he told Football Insider.

“As soon as Leeds lose a game, fall out of the top two, or fall out of the playoffs and look like missing out on promotion then there’s an issue.

“They came so close last year and they’ve shown what they can do now."

Channeling last season's disappointment is always a tall order for any-play-off final loser, but it's arguably even worse for Leeds as they also shoulder the weight of expectation, something which is perhaps weighing heavy on Farke.

But he has proved his worth at this level before, with that points per game average only slightly below the magical two points per game average that is much talked about for automatic promotion - something he achieved twice with Norwich City.

Robinson believes Farke has one last chance to get Leeds promoted

Unfortunately for Farke, a fan base as large as Leeds' demands success, and if he can't deliver what an expectant Elland Road wants, then he's onto a loser.

Robinson believes he's still the right man for the job at the moment, but time the former England international suggested that if he fails this time around then his job hangs in the balance.

“With the squad of players at his disposal, they were pre-season favourites to go up" said Robinson.

“If he doesn’t get Leeds United up this season then there are real questions over his job.

“You expect the manager, with those players, to get them out of the Championship.

“If he doesn’t do it this year, there’ll be major questions asked, but at the moment you stick with him and give him the rest of the season.”

Robinson's claims are probably shared by a wealth of Leeds United supporters, all of whom expect this time around that they should be playing Premier League football next season.

And if they aren't, then it's difficult to see a way back for Farke.
