Paulinho has been handed a one-match suspension for his goal celebration during Palmeiras’ 3-0 victory at Flamengo at the Maracanã last Saturday in the 17th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
According to Nosso Palestra, the Fourth Commission of the STJD acquitted the Palmeiras number 10 on the 28th, but the STJD Prosecutor’s Office appealed and the Tribunal Pleno ruled on Wednesday 3, imposing a one-match ban.
The decision is not open to appeal by Palmeiras and the player must serve the suspension against Coritiba after the return from the World Cup.
In his match report, referee Davi Lacerda cautioned Paulinho with a yellow card for making provocative or mocking gestures towards the opposing crowd during his goal celebration.
In the first hearing, Paulinho recorded a video explaining that his celebration was aimed at Palmeiras supporters rather than intended to provoke the Rio club.
