Paulinho recalls Maracanã ‘prophecy’ before Palmeiras’ clash with Flamengo | OneFootball

Paulinho has recalled predicting a goal at the Maracanã before Palmeiras faced Flamengo. He had earmarked the fixture even before returning after nearly 10 months out with a right leg injury.

According to Globo.com, a behind-the-scenes video released by TV Palmeiras the day after the 3-0 win shows him chatting with Lucas Evangelista on 30 April about the date. In the clip he says Flamengo v Palmeiras at the Maracanã was the game and that he would be there.

Reflecting on the conversation, the No 10 said the Maracanã carries a different energy. The forward came through at Vasco da Gama and had family in Rio de Janeiro in the stands for the top-of-the-table meeting in the Brasileirão.

His shushing celebration towards the Flamengo end sparked a brief melee on the pitch. Paulinho featured for about 15 minutes as he continues to manage his minutes to cement his recovery.

He is expected to be named in the squad for Palmeiras' next assignment in 2026, on Thursday, against Junior Barranquilla. It is the final round of the Conmebol Libertadores group stage, with kick-off at 19:00 at Allianz Parque.
