Cristian Pavón has suffered a serious muscle injury and will miss Grêmio’s upcoming Gauchão and Campeonato Brasileiro fixtures, according to Gremistas.net. The club have not yet confirmed the setback.
Pavón came on during the 4-0 win away to Avenida on Saturday 10, in the first round of the Campeonato Gaúcho. The update has been circulating internally since Monday 13. Head coach Luis Castro now faces another early-season absentee.
Pavón’s contract runs only until December this year, and there have been no talks over an extension. An early-season exit had been considered by the hierarchy, largely due to his high salary.
From July he can sign a pre-contract with any club. If that happens, he would leave Grêmio for free at the start of 2027, so his situation is being debated internally.
Grêmio have already added José Enamorado and Tetê in his position, a combined outlay of around nine million euros, R$ 56.3 million. The initial estimate points to a 60-day lay-off, placing his return no earlier than March.
