Pedro Sousa believes Newcastle’s interest in Benfica head coach José Mourinho goes beyond mere rumour, pointing to a 3 million euros clause he considers insignificant for PIF.
According to Glorioso 1904, he referenced Rui Costa’s line that Mourinho has one year left on his deal, and noted that PIF controls Al Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ahli, Al Ittihad and 85% of Newcastle.
He suggested that, with Newcastle currently 14th in the Premier League, a sequence of positive results could still deliver European qualification, so the chatter in England is more than idle speculation.
Sousa also argued that Eddie Howe, loyal across long spells of about six years at Newcastle and eight at Bournemouth, could be nearing the end given heavy spending and the lack of regular Champions League football.
He cited a difficult summer after Alexander Isak’s turbulent exit and predicted the Mourinho story will intensify in the coming weeks, reiterating that the clause would not trouble PIF.
