Peñarol are weighing whether to trigger the $4m purchase clause for Grêmio striker Arezo.
According to Globo.com, the club will put the matter to an internal vote that could seal a permanent deal, with sentiment currently leaning towards buying. There has been no direct contact with Grêmio yet, although the terms are already defined in the option.
Arezo's loan at Peñarol runs until 31 December, but the clause expires on 30 June, prompting the club to accelerate talks.
This is his second loan spell at the club, the initial move came in July last year and was extended in December. River Plate of Uruguay hold the other 50% of his economic rights and have charged sums to Grêmio.
Individually he is in good form, with 23 appearances and nine goals this season, including two in the Conmebol Libertadores. Peñarol, however, finished bottom of Corinthians' group and went out.
Grêmio bought 50% of his rights from Granada in July 2024 for €3m, but he never fully established himself. He made 12 appearances without scoring in 2024, then featured 25 times the following season, starting 12, and scored six. In May last year he told Uruguayan media he wanted to return to Peñarol, which preceded his loan move.
