Manchester City head coach and Barcelona icon Pep Guardiola has this week admitted that he would love to be afforded the opportunity to manage Blaugrana sensation Lamine Yamal.
Guardiola, during his time in Catalunya’s capital, both lined out alongside and oversaw the development of some of the game’s very best players.
Few, though, can compare to the level being shown by the aforementioned Lamine at just 17 years of age.
Despite his tender years, the Spanish international is already considered as being amongst the game’s standout players, a legitimate contender to lift the next Ballon d’Or.
Speaking during an exchange with the media this week, Pep Guardiola was therefore drawn on Lamine’s talents, as well as the comparisons between the Barca starlet and Lionel Messi.
And the tactician made use of the opportunity to heap praise on Lamine, admitting that he would love the chance to manage the attacker:
“He’s in the best place to achieve his goals. I could talk about what I felt when I was coaching Leo, and I would like to coach him (Lamine), but that won’t happen. Let him have his career, and in the end, we’ll evaluate it. I hope it’s as long and successful as Leo’s, but doing it every three days for 15 years is a tough task. He has to prove it, but consistency is the hardest part. If he’s compared to Leo, it has to be good. What he promises is extraordinary; a blind man can see it.”
