Pep Guardiola will leave Manchester City at the end of the season after 10 years in charge, drawing a line under an era that delivered 20 trophies, including the 2023 Champions League and six Premier League titles. He departs as the most decorated manager in the club's history.
Pep Guardiola said in a club video that there was no particular reason for his decision, adding he felt the moment had come and that nothing is eternal.
Appointed in 2016, the 55-year-old transformed City into serial winners, claiming league titles in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. This season they secured an FA Cup and League Cup double, while sitting second in the table, four points behind champions Arsenal.
His methods have reshaped the English game, from building play from the back and ball-playing goalkeepers to extended possession spells across the divisions.
He will take charge for the final time on Sunday at 17:00 against Aston Villa, then move into an international ambassador role with City Football Group. The former Barcelona coach led the Catalan side from 2008 to 2012.
His former assistant in 2022-2023, Italian coach Enzo Maresca, later of Leicester and Chelsea, is expected to succeed him this summer.
