Catalan head coach has got another over his former assistant

It is the second time that the Manchester City boss has won the award this season, and it moves ahead of his title rival and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who has won it once this term.

In April, Guardiola oversaw his side reel in the Gunners’ nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League, and City moved to the summit with a 1-0 win over Burnley to follow their 2-1 victory over the north Londoners at the Etihad Stadium last month.

City won all three of their league games in April, thrashing Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, emerging victorious against Arsenal, before sneaking past Burnley.

They also reached the semi-finals and then the final of the FA Cup with a 4-0 decimation of Liverpool in the quarter-finals and a spectacular comeback against Southampton in the last four at Wembley Stadium.

City are now five points off Arsenal in the title race, and they have four games left to play this term.

The Gunners have played one more, and they travel to relegation-threatened West Ham United in the Sunday tea-time kick-off.

Before that, City host Brentford at the Etihad Stadium, with Keith Andrews’ visitors looking to stake a claim for an unlikely European finish.

Should City defeat the high-flying Bees, they will move to within two points of Arteta’s men, and the onus will be on the north Londoners to re-establish their cushion at the London Stadium the following day.

Guardiola then welcomes Conference League finalists Crystal Palace to the north-west for City’s outstanding game in hand, where they could again close the gap on their rivals should Arsenal take all three points in east London.
