Spaniard hopes his side’s trophy-winning pedigree can help them in title race
Pep Guardiola insists that Manchester City are ready to finish the season on a high as they look to chase Arsenal down in the Premier League title race.
The Gunners lead City by seven points with eight matches left to play, though Guardiola’s side have a game in hand.
After putting out some nervy displays in recent weeks, some questioned whether Arsenal’s squad has the requisite trophy-winning experience to get a first title since 2004 over the line.
And Guardiola seemed to make a jab at the Gunners as he pointed out the bountiful experience in his side.
"We have experience of that in the trebles, quadruples,” he said. “You have to arrive in the decisive moment of the season with the players in that position.”
He acknowledged that City’s fate was not necessarily in their control, and that they must wait for Arsenal to slip up before they can gain ground. He also accepted that last week's home draw with Nottingham Forest was an opportunity missed.
Guardiola hopes his side can get back to form as they visit Real Madrid in the Champions League this week: "It's a pity that the battle for the Premier League in not in our hands, so that is a big drop against Nottingham, but I don't think much.
"It's just OK, now recover, go to Madrid, make a good selection and hopefully we can behave - I'm not talking win or lose, it's behave in the way who we are.
"That's always my focus when we play in the biggest stages against big teams. It's not win or lose, it's be who we are as an individual, as a team and after that, you can win or lose, you never know, but that is the main mentality I have in my mind."
