Pep Guardiola has hailed Rayan Cherki’s boxing after spotting an Instagram clip, offering a playful nod to the in-form Manchester City forward during Sunday’s press conference.

According to L'Équipe, asked what had surprised him most about the Frenchman, Guardiola said he had been taken aback by Cherki’s boxing on Instagram and had not expected it. He then joked he would not argue with him and that he would pick him every match, calling the footage frightening.

The manager was referring to a video of Cherki’s boxing training, posted by his trainer on Instagram. The former Lyon attacker appears focused and composed, mirroring his Premier League form with four goals and 10 assists in 28 matches of his first City season.

City, second in the English top flight, face Everton, 11th on 47 points, on Monday at 21:00. They aim to move within three points of leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.
