In what was one of the biggest moves of the transfer window, Gianluigi Donnarumma moved from PSG to Manchester City on Deadline Day. The deal cost City around €30/35m, which is cheap for arguably the best goalkeeper in the world right now. While debate will continue to rage about whether he fits Pep Guardiola’s side, it is undeniable that this is a very exciting signing. Donnarumma will link up with his City teammates after the current international break, for which he is with the Italian national team. In a press conference (via gianlucamarzio.com), the keeper spoke about joining City and Pep Guardiola’s role in the move. “Honestly, I couldn’t wait to go to Man City, because they really wanted me, because Guardiola really wanted me. I can only be proud to have arrived at a club like City. I’m very happy”, he said. This move has only taken place because Donnarumma was told by PSG manager Luis Enrique that he is not in the club’s plans for next season, despite having played a massive role in their Champions League triumph last season. On being asked whether he was disappointed by the decision, Donnarumma said, “Disappointed? I don’t know, it’s right for every coach to make his own decisions. The support of my teammates made me understand what I’ve brought to PSG, and that’s the most important thing.”Kaulik Mitra | GIFN
