Mohamed Salah was named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year on Tuesday.

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers scooped the PFA Young Player of the Year, while Mariona Caldentey, the Arsenal forward, won the women’s Player of the Year award.

Salah has now won the top individual prize in English football three times thanks to his starring role in Liverpool’s title win last term.

He won the Premier League golden boot with 29 goals and 18 assists.

Salah’s Liverpool team-mate Alexis Mac Allister was also named on the shortlist alongside Newcastle striker Alexander Isak - who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield - Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.

Isak was not at the ceremony in Manchester having snubbed an invitation due to the uncertainty over his future at Newcastle.

On Tuesday night, he explained his absence and fired a shot at his current employers about his discontentment in a statement on Instagram, where he claimed that “promises” had been “broken” and that his “relationship” with the club “could not continue”.

Salah has now won all three individual accolades for his exploits last season, also winning the Premier League player of the season and the FWA footballer of the year award.

In the hotly-anticipated PFA Team of the Year, four of Salah’s Liverpool colleagues made the XI.

Milos Kerkez, recognised for his standout performances in a Bournemouth shirt, earned a transfer to Merseyside this summer, while Ryan Gravenberch and Mac Allister made up two thirds of the midfield, which was completed by Rice. Virgil van Dijk was in the back four.

Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels was in goal, with the back four including Arsenal’s William Saliba and Gabriel alongside Kerkez and van Dijk.

Salah was joined in the front three by Isak and Forest’s Chris Wood.

On the women’s side, Caldentey was given the plaudits for a superb season where she scored nine goals and registered five assists in 20 Women’s Super League games, while she netted seven times in Arsenal’s Champions League triumph.

Caldentey’s Arsenal team-mate Olivia Smith won the women’s Young Player of the Year award.

There was some London recognition in the EFL awards, with Bromley’s Michael Cheek scooping the League Two player of the season after he scored 26 goals in 49 games in all competitions, including 25 in the league.
