Manchester City kicked off their campaign in the restructured FIFA Club World Cup with a solid win - but it was academy graduate Phil Foden who stole the headlines in Philadelphia.
After a stop-start season marked by injuries and patchy form, the 25-year-old came out firing.
The England international opened the scoring within two minutes and later teed up Jeremy Doku for City's second, sealing a 2–0 victory over Moroccan outfit Wydad AC in their Group G opener.
Foden’s lively display earned him the Man of the Match award (a.k.a. Superior Player of the Match), capping off a performance that looked like a return to his best.
He also etched his name into the record books by becoming the first English player to score in multiple editions of the Club World Cup - across all of its previous formats - having also netted in the 2023 final against Fluminense.
