According to Cadena Ser, Fernando Soler, a partner of former footballer Gerard Piqué, asked the investigating judge on Friday to unfreeze Kosmos accounts so he can collect his share of the Supercopa business.
He voiced the request at the end of his statement, adding he understood Judge Delia Rodrigo had already authorised Kosmos to access funds to pay surcharges owed to the Tax Agency.
Soler testified by videolink from Barcelona to Court of Instruction No 2 in Majadahonda, Madrid, as a witness. He said he had prior dealings with Saudi state company Sela and worked for Piqué’s firm, Kosmos, on moving the Spanish Supercopa to Saudi Arabia. He and the company agreed fees of 5.5% of the sums Kosmos received.
Piqué denies making payments to Rubiales and has said he is proud of the Supercopa contract. Questioned by the RFEF’s lawyer, Soler backed Piqué’s version and maintained they were assisting Sela, which lacked expertise in football business.
Separately, the latest case findings indicate two people under investigation may have received part of funds paid by Estadio de la Cartuja for works on the Seville pitch to stage four Euro 2020 finals matches.
