Pedro Neto has been a player reborn at the Club World Cup.
That’s not to say he hadn’t already had a pretty solid first year at Chelsea, but without doubt he kicked things up a level in the USA. He scored some early goals in the tournament and has kept up his good form since.
Our opening goal last night was a direct result of one of his pacy, driving runs down the flank which is so effective at breaking down defences.
Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto after the former’s superb goal.
The winger spoke to Chelsea’s official website after the game about his team’s performance and how happy there were to be in the final:
“I think the results speak for themselves,” Neto said.
“The way that we have been working, the way that we have been doing things, has been really good. We have been improving a lot, we have more to come. We are just really happy with the things that we are doing and we hope to finish in the best way.”
Of course the aim for all these players is to win the final, and they will need to find a whole new gear to do that, whether it’s Real Madrid or PSG they end up facing.
“You can see throughout the tournament we have had difficult moments. We had difficult moments in terms of controlling the game, and we could control it with the defence,” Neto added with great satisfaction.
“We did a really good job, we are improving a lot in that area, by being more experienced in these kind of moments. We are really happy to be in the final and hopefully we can continue to work in the same way.”
