Southampton were within sight of a famous FA Cup upset before Manchester City struck twice late to win 2-1 at Wembley.

Finn Azaz curled Saints ahead on 79 minutes, beating James Trafford. Three minutes later Jérémy Doku's weak shot deflected in off James Bree, then with three minutes remaining Nico González found the top left-hand corner. According to Sainstmarching.com, the player ratings gave high marks to Daniel Peretz and Caspar Jander.

Peretz earned nine out of 10 after a string of saves. Bree battled hard at full-back, while Taylor Harwood-Bellis impressed with a goal-line clearance and seven clearances, two tackles, two interceptions and two blocks.

Nathan Wood was composed in possession and made a vital first-half challenge on Omar Marmoush. Welington timed his interventions well and looked comfortable at this level.

Cameron Bragg maintained discipline and used the ball well. Jander received nine out of 10 for shutting down Phil Foden and largely keeping Rayan Cherki quiet.

Azaz was given eight and proved the creative spark. With chances at a premium, Tom Fellows hesitated when clean through and Nathan Aké recovered to tackle.

Léo Scienza had a first-half finish ruled out for offside and was Saints' most dangerous outlet. Ross Stewart managed 14 touches before Cyle Larin and Shea Charles arrived on 61 minutes, Kuryu Matsuki on 76, with Cameron Archer and Samuel Edozie introduced late.
