Weston McKennie continued his resurgence under Luciano Spalletti as Juventus battled back to draw 2-2 with Lazio in Serie A on Sunday evening.
According to Football Italia, McKennie was Juventus’ standout performer, maintaining a scoring run that leaves him ahead of any other Serie A midfielder since Spalletti’s appointment.
Maurizio Sarri’s side surged two up soon after the restart through Pedro and Gustav Isaksen. McKennie halved the deficit, then Pierre Kalulu struck in the final minute of added time.
Spalletti will have been frustrated to fall two behind at home, yet his side’s mentality shone through. Juventus racked up 34 shots, eight on target, 13 off target and 13 blocked. Substitutes made a clear impact, notably Jeremie Boga and Edon Zhegrova, who had not been intended to come on at half-time.
Isaksen was Lazio’s standout, doubling the advantage almost immediately after the interval after Danilo Cataldi’s precise first-time pass. For Sarri, this draw felt closer to a defeat after an organised display that looked set to yield a notable away win until the late siege.
