A transfer war of attrition continues to rage in the Pacific Northwest after Portland Timbers star Santiago Moreno made a shock decision this evening.
Amid links to a possible summer move to Fluminense, the 25-year-old Colombian winger has failed to report with the team ahead of Phil Neville's men face off against Club América in the 2025 Leagues Cup later tonight, per MLS insider Tom Bogert.
Moreno reportedly informed Portland GM Ned Grabavoy that he fully intends to leave the club as the Timbers hold firm in their stance that the player is not for sale.
Portland have already issued a response regarding Moreno's action.
"Portland Timbers midfielder Santiago Moreno failed to report to tonight’s match vs. Club América."
"There is no deal in place for the transfer of Moreno, and the absence is considered unexcused. The club has been in contact with Major League Soccer regarding his absence."
It is expected that disciplinary measures will follow in accordance with MLS and MLSPA policy.
