Porto boost midfield options with Hwang In-beom signing

FC Porto have signed South Korean midfielder Hwang In-beom. The Portuguese champions paid Feyenoord €4.5 million plus 500,000 euros in add-ons for the 29-year-old, who was an ever-present for his country at World Cup 2026.

Hwang In-beom has signed a three-year contract, with an option for a further season.

Wife’s nod of approval to move

“I’m very excited about signing for FC Porto, one of the best clubs in the world,” he told Porto’s website. “It’s an honour to represent this club and this city.

“I really like Porto. Last Christmas I brought my family here. We went to Lisbon and Porto and my wife said straight away that she liked Porto more than Lisbon. The move was 40% my decision, the other 60% was hers! I’m very happy.

“We were champions last season and our goal is to keep the trophy in the city. I hope to help the team on this mission, which starts today in the training centre.”

The experienced midfielder is well-travelled. After leaving his home country, South Korea, at just 20 years of age, he has played in Canada, Russia, Greece, Serbia and the Netherlands.

Hwang In-beom is Porto’s fifth newcomer this summer. The Dragons re-signed striker André Silva and winger Cardoso Varela (both former Porto youth players), and also brought in goalkeeper João Afonso and Norwegian midfielder Eirik Granaas.
