Pompey are set to miss out on signing Kamara on a permanent transfer for the second time

Portsmouth FC's hopes of securing a reunion with Abu Kamara have been dealt a huge blow.

The club's sporting director, Rich Hughes, had previously admitted Pompey were unable to afford the valuation placed on the winger when Hull initially swooped to sign him from Norwich City.

"The point where Norwich named a valuation that was far in excess of anything we would be able to achieve was when we moved on and pursued other targets," Hughes told The News about why they didn't bid for Kamara then.

Whilst on loan off the South Coast in 23/24, Kamara scored eight goals and managed 10 assists in League One as he helped Pompey achieve promotion to the second-tier.

Getafe leading the race for Abu Kamara

Hull City are now in advanced talks with three clubs over Abu Kamara's departure from the MKM Stadium - with Spanish outfit Getafe being the ones who have submitted the best offer for the 22-year-old, according to Hull Live.

The two other teams who have reportedly lodged concrete offers are Birmingham City and Rangers, but it appears the Madrid-based side will be the ones to secure Kamara if negotiations go well.

Darren Witcoop reported that Portsmouth remained interested in Kamara, but it seems like they've been priced out of a move for him again.

The Tigers' position throughout has been clear though, in that they'd only let Kamara go if they could get the full fee they paid Norwich City last summer - which was apparently up to £4.5m with add-ons.

John Mousinho unlikely to get Abu Kamara reunion

For Pompey, seemingly missing out on Kamara is surely a big blow to any ambitions they have of strengthening their attacking options before the end of the window.

Whilst new signing Adrian Segecic, who joined from Australia's Sydney FC, scored on opening day against Oxford in Pompey's 1-0 win, the club will probably be disappointed they weren't able to add Kamara to compete for a place in the starting lineup.

Swansea City loanee Florian Bianchini started on the left against the U's, but he only managed to score three goals for the Swans in 24/25.

Kamara was definitely a fan favourite at Fratton Park during his loan spell a few years ago, and John Mousinho urged supporters to give him a nice reception when he returned with Hull.

The interest from Getafe, who compete in Spain's top-flight, will be the biggest step up in Kamara's career to date. The England U20 international will certainly be hoping to replicate his previous Pompey form if he does end up making the move.
