According to L'Équipe, Portugal’s players will wear red and green bracelets at the 2026 World Cup in tribute to Diogo Jota, after being gifted them by prime minister Luis Montenegro.

They are set to debut them against DR Congo on Wednesday 17 June at 19:00. The gesture comes nearly a year after Jota and his brother André died in a road accident.

Vitinha said on Sunday that Montenegro secured approval for the wristbands to be used on the pitch, and left the decision to the squad.

The players chose to wear them collectively.

Each bracelet features the names of every squad member alongside Jota’s, the former Reds forward.
