After the dismissal of Liam Manning at the beginning of the most recent international break, Norwich City have confirmed former Monaco and Rangers boss Philippe Clement as his replacement, with the Belgian signing a three-and-a-half-year contract at Carrow Road.

It has been a nightmare start to the 2025/26 campaign for Norwich, with the Canaries languishing in the relegation zone after 15 games and possessing the worst home record in the entire EFL, having failed to pick up a single point at home this season from seven attempts.

This has led the club to sack former head coach Liam Manning from his role, having only appointed him in the summer after poaching the boyhood Canaries fan from Bristol City.

It was not the homecoming he, or anyone involved with the club, would have been dreaming of, and after just shy of a third of the way into the Championship season, Norwich face the real possibility of being involved in a relegation scrap come the end of the season.

After links with Gary O'Neil, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Will Still, and Russell Martin, the Canaries have finally landed on Philippe Clement as the man to take on the mantle in Norfolk this campaign, with his first target to drag the club away from the threat of relegation.

Football League World's Norwich fan pundit, Zeke, has shared their opinion on whether they believe that Clement is a good appointment for the club, with the Canaries lingering in the relegation zone.

Zeke said: "I would say it is a good appointment. I'm seeing a lot of things about maybe it not being, but maybe that's just fans and Twitter.

"I think a guy who has managed big European clubs like Rangers, Club Brugge, Monaco, and Genk, I think you can't really turn your nose up at that.

"The other managers who were linked or were spoken to didn't have as much pedigree as him.

"I think it's a really good appointment and we have done well to convince him to drop down to the bottom of the Championship.

"He can obviously see the vision, and he must like what Knapper has been telling him and what the Attanasio's have said, so if he's on board and if it is going to happen, then I think that it is really exciting, and I'm looking forward to if that is announced and getting started on working our way back up the table, hopefully.

"He plays a good style, maybe not the same style that we would normally play, but it's relatively attacking, so hopefully he can get a little bit more out of the players that we have."

Norwich City will be hoping that Philippe Clement can turn their dismal beginning to the campaign around

Norwich fans will be hoping that this most recent appointment is the right one, with the club in real danger of being cut adrift from the rest of the pack, being four points from safety at this stage.

The Belgian is not new to the managerial scene, having spent time with the likes of Waasland-Beveren, Genk, Club Brugge, Monaco, and Rangers, where he has had varying degrees of success.

With Genk, he won the Jupiler Pro League in 2019 before moving to Club Brugge the following season, where he would once again win the top flight for the following two seasons, earning a move to Monaco in January 2022 to replace Niko Kovac, lifting the side from sixth to third at the end of the season.

His time with Rangers was mixed, as, although he won the Scottish League Cup in 2024, his record against Celtic was his ultimate downfall, winning just once in seven attempts against their Glasgow rivals, and he was dismissed in February 2025, where he has been out of work ever since.

Clement is known for his ability to adapt to different formations throughout his career, having deployed a back three formation during his time with Club Brugge, a 4-4-2 during his time with Monaco, and a 4-2-3-1 during his time with Rangers.

Though one former member of his coaching staff said, "I think the biggest thing for him is not necessarily about the opponent, he tries to stick to his principles as opposed to adapting his team to play. He won’t always change how he presses, for example."

Another staff member said: "Once he gets to know the players and then works out his ideas, he will work on specific concepts for his team."
