Ange Postecoglou has said he will win trophies at Nottingham Forest after becoming the club’s new head coach.

Postecoglou was appointed as new head coach at the City Ground earlier this week, following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo.

It marks an instant return to the Premier League for Postecoglou, who was sacked at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. The Australian was dismissed despite winning the Europa League, after a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League.

Postecoglou previously won silverware in Australia, Japan and Scotland and has vowed to continue winning trophies after his arrival in Nottingham.

“I’ve said already I want to win trophies and that’s what I’ve done my whole career and that’s what I’ll do here,” he said at a press conference.

“Every club wants to be successful but what I’ve seen over the last few years, those ambitions are backed up with actions.”

Postecoglou will take charge of Forest for the first time at Arsenal this weekend. He believes he has inherited a talented squad with big ambition.

“I really like the squad,” he added.

“Think it’s got great balance and able to cover most positions for the rotations you need. It has different demands on you in the Premier League and the cup competitions too. It’s a squad I think is ready to compete and also robust enough.

“I’m excited. Not really sure when the next opportunity will arise. It happened and I’m excited. It’s great to be back in the Premier League and in charge of a club with a storied history.”
